About SHTM files
An .SHTM file is typically an HTML web page containing Server Side Includes (SSI). Unlike a standard HTML file, an .SHTM file contains special directives - such as <!--#include --> - that must be processed by a web server (like Apache HTTP Server or Microsoft IIS) before the page is sent to a browser. This technology was historically popular for reusing code, such as website headers and footers, across multiple pages.
A major limitation for users is that .SHTM files do not render correctly when opened directly from a local hard drive. Without a running server to process the SSI directives, browsers often display broken layouts, missing components, or even raw code snippets. Additionally, due to their ability to execute server-side scripts, .SHTM files are frequently blocked by email filters and have been exploited in phishing campaigns to deliver malware drop chains. For safe inspection without executing potential scripts, it is best to convert .SHTM to TXT to view the source code or PDF to archive the visual content safely. To render the page as intended for the web, it should be processed into standard HTML.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SHTM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted SHTML, LOGIN, CACHE and OSDX files.
The SHTM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SHTM converter.
