About SFVIDCAP files
The .SFVIDCAP file is a proprietary video capture project file created by legacy software like STOIK Capturer and early Sonic Foundry video tools. These files typically store session data, device settings, and references to raw video clips recorded from external sources like DV cameras or webcams. To open or convert these files, you traditionally need the original software such as STOIK Capturer or older versions of Vegas Pro (now owned by MAGIX). Users often need to convert .SFVIDCAP files because the format is highly obsolete, proprietary, and completely unsupported by modern web browsers, smartphones, or standard media players like VLC. A major disadvantage is that if the file is small, it likely contains no actual video data, holding only project settings that point to temporary files on an old hard drive. If the file does contain embedded video or if you can export the project, the best target formats are MP4 for web compatibility or AVI for lossless archival. Keep in mind that converting a project file to a video format will flatten the project, meaning all timeline data and individual clip settings will be permanently lost. Because .SFVIDCAP is a closed, proprietary project format rather than a standard multimedia container, traditional online video converters will fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the structured timeline data. However, you can use convert.guru as a practical workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view its internal text, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects supported embedded media or plain text references, viewing or recovering your data may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SFVIDCAP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SFVIDCAP file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use Vegas Pro or similar software from the "Video Capture Project Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The SFVIDCAP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SFVIDCAP converter.
