About SFVIDCAP files
The .sfvidcap file is a video capture project file, not a playable video itself. It is generated by capture utilities like STOIK Capturer and legacy versions of Vegas Pro (formerly Sonic Foundry). This file acts as a log or database of a recording session, storing metadata such as timecodes (start/stop points), tape names, and references to the actual video clips (usually saved as AVI or DV in the same folder).
Users often mistake this file for their video recording because it appears in the output folder. However, .sfvidcap files are typically very small (often under 100KB), whereas actual video files are gigabytes in size. You cannot convert an .sfvidcap file directly to MP4 because it contains no image data - only text and pointers. To "convert" this project, you must locate the source video files it references. If you still possess the original MiniDV or Digital8 tapes, this file can be used by the software to automatically batch recapture the exact same clips.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SFVIDCAP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted GF, XAS and BNP files.
The SFVIDCAP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SFVIDCAP converter.
