The .SFN file extension is heavily fragmented and serves multiple distinct purposes depending on the software that created it. Most commonly, it acts as a Firmware UI resource file for Sunplus Technology camera toolchains, a proprietary game font for Electronic Arts (EA Sports) titles, a saved report generated by FastReport, or a Screen Entry File for SAS Institute statistical software. Certain set-top boxes built on the ALI Corp chipset also use this format to store system fonts.
Because .SFN is utilized by such radically different applications, it suffers from severe interoperability issues. These files are strictly proprietary. An EA game font requires specific modding tools or legacy software like Fontographer for reverse-engineering, while a SAS data file requires an active license to read.
