About SFG files
The .sfg file extension primarily represents a StockFinder Indicator file or a financial trading system formula used by platforms like MetaStock and YesStock YesTrader. These files store proprietary technical analysis formulas, custom indicators, and algorithms used by traders to analyze market trends. Alternatively, .sfg can also denote a Synfig Studio Compressed Project file used by the open-source 2D vector animation software, Synfig Studio.
In the financial context, .sfg files are strictly proprietary and locked into closed ecosystems. You cannot execute or visualize a trading formula outside of the specific trading platform it was written for, which forces traders into expensive software subscriptions. For animators, the .sfg format serves as an archive packing the raw SIF XML project file along with external assets like images. However, web browsers and standard media players cannot open or play it directly, making it impossible to share the animation with clients without rendering it first.
Financial .sfg files are sometimes readable as plain text, meaning you could potentially extract the raw code to a TXT file, though the trading logic will rarely port directly to other platforms like TradingView. Synfig .sfg archives can often be unzipped (converted to ZIP) to extract the underlying XML data or PNG assets. To share the actual animation, you must use Synfig Studio to render the project to a standard video format like MP4 or AVI.
Because .sfg acts either as a closed financial script or an application-specific animation archive, it is notoriously difficult to process with standard online converters. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the exact format, inspect the file's internal structure, and show underlying text or embedded assets. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extracting files may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SFG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The SFG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SFG converter.
