About SDS files

The .sds file extension is primarily used as a proprietary game data archive for the Mafia video game series (including Mafia: Definitive Edition). These files package 3D models, textures, audio tracks, and script data into a single compressed container. Alternatively, an .sds file can be a legacy MIDI Sample Dump Standard audio file used to transfer digital waveforms between hardware samplers, or a sound library file for SmartSound Sonicfire Pro.

The main disadvantage of .sds files is their lack of native support. Mafia archives are heavily encrypted and proprietary; modifying them requires unofficial community-built extraction tools, and mods frequently break after official game updates.
