An .sdo file is primarily a Signed Document Object used as an electronically signed document container. It is heavily utilized by digital signature services like Visma Addo, Signicat, and SmartDocuments. Under the hood, these files are often packaged as standard XML or ZIP archives containing the original agreement and a cryptographic signature. Other minor variations of the .sdo extension include electrochemical experiment data files for IviumSoft and textile weaving designs for EAT DesignScope.
Users often need to convert or extract these files to access the original signed document for archiving or sharing. However, e-signature containers are highly proprietary and purpose-built. They are locked down to prevent tampering, meaning you cannot easily read the contents without breaking the signature validation. Scientific and manufacturing variants require specialized, expensive software to interpret the data. Standard web browsers and document editors cannot open them directly.
If the file is an XML or ZIP container, extracting the contents or converting to PDF is the best way to read the document text. Be aware that extracting the contents will separate the document from its cryptographic signature, invalidating its legal proof of integrity.
