About SBW files
The .sbw file format is a proprietary data file created by the US Treasury for their legacy Savings Bond Wizard software. It stores personal inventory data of United States savings bonds, including denominations, issue dates, serial numbers, and accumulated interest.
The main disadvantage of the .SBW format is that it relies on an antiquated, Windows-only application. The file uses a closed, proprietary database structure. You cannot open it natively in modern web browsers, macOS, mobile devices, or standard spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Users often face extreme difficulty trying to view their bond portfolio when upgrading to a new computer because the original software is obsolete.
Ideally, this financial data should be converted to standard formats like CSV (for spreadsheet editing) or PDF (for secure, printable records).
Because .SBW is a closed, undocumented format, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original Savings Bond Wizard can reliably parse the custom binary structure. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SBW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SBW file to XLS, XLSX, XLSM, XLSB, ODS, CSV, TSV, TAB, DIF, SLK, WK1 or WK3, you can use Savings Bond Wizard or similar software from the "Savings Bond Inventory Database" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert WQ1, XLSM, NOTES, QPW, WK3, WB2, WKS, XLSB, 123, XLS, WB1 or XLSX files to SBW, try Savings Bond Wizard or another comparable tool in the "Savings Bond Inventory Database" category.
The SBW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SBW converter.
