About S2P files
The .S2P file extension represents the Touchstone file format, specifically containing 2-port S-parameter (scattering parameter) data. Developed originally by EEsof (now Keysight Technologies), these ASCII text files are the industry standard for describing the frequency-dependent behavior of RF and microwave components like filters, amplifiers, and cables. While the format is text-based, the raw data consists of columns of complex numbers (Magnitude/Angle or Real/Imaginary) that are unintelligible without specialized visualization tools. Opening these files typically requires expensive Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software like PathWave ADS or Ansys HFSS, which can cost thousands of dollars per license. Furthermore, legacy Touchstone v1.0 files often lack the metadata found in modern v2.0 versions, leading to import errors in newer simulators. For easier analysis and reporting, engineers frequently need to convert .S2P files to CSV or XLSX for processing in Microsoft Excel, or to MAT for use in MATLAB.
Convert.Guru analyzes your S2P file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert S2P file to , you can use Keysight_ADS or similar software from the "RF Network Parameter Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The S2P Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our S2P converter.
