About S02 files
The .s02 file format is primarily a SAFE Neutral Data File created by Computers and Structures, Inc. (CSI) for structural engineering. It is used to transfer complex foundation and floor system model data between CSI products like CSi SAFE and ETABS. Alternatively, the .s02 extension acts as a ZipSplitter Part 3 File, representing the third chronological chunk of a split compressed archive, or as plain raw output from certain Optical Character Recognition (OCR) engines. The main disadvantage of the SAFE Neutral Data format is its highly proprietary, closed-ecosystem nature. The files require expensive, specialized structural software to open and cannot be interpreted by standard CAD viewers, text editors, or web browsers. For split archives, the .s02 file is inherently incomplete; it requires the entire preceding sequence (e.g., s00, s01) to be present for successful data extraction. Because these formats are either tightly closed engineering models or fragmented archive pieces, standard online converters fail to process them properly. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data into standard formats like PDF or DXF.
