About S01 files

The .s01 extension represents a collision of several distinct file formats, requiring specific identification before conversion.

  1. Split Archive Segment (Common): Frequently, this is Part 2 of a spanned archive created by utilities like ZipSplitter or older Corel WordPerfect distributions. These files are binary fragments and cannot be opened alone. They usually accompany a master file (e.g., .exe, .zip, or .s00) that orchestrates the reassembly of the data. Opening them directly in WinZip often results in "corrupt file" errors.
  2. SUSALUD Health Data (9% share): In specific medical data contexts (TEDEF_Cliente), an .s01 file is simply a renamed ZIP archive. These can often be opened by changing the extension from .s01 to ZIP.
