About S00 files

The .s00 file format is most commonly a multi-volume split archive created by WinRAR. When users need to share massive files over email or store them on small-capacity drives, software breaks the single archive into sequentially numbered chunks: .rar, .s00, .s01, etc. Other industries use the .s00 extension for entirely different proprietary data. Polytec GmbH uses it for optical measurement sample files (Poly5), while PyroSim uses it for fire simulation slice data. ZipSplitter also uses it as a part 1 file. The primary disadvantage of an .s00 file is its dependency. If it is a split archive, a standalone .s00 file is completely useless. You cannot open, extract, or convert it without the master file and all other numbered volumes in the exact same directory. Furthermore, the Polytec and PyroSim variants are closed, proprietary data containers that require expensive commercial software licenses to read. Standard online converters fail to process these because the raw binary structure is either fragmented or undocumented. If you have a complete archive sequence, your best path is to extract the payload using WinRAR or 7-Zip, then repackage the contents into universally supported .ZIP or .7Z files.
