About RVF files
The .RVF (RichView Format) is a proprietary document file type generated specifically by applications built using the TRichView component suite for Delphi and C++Builder. Unlike standardized formats like DOCX or ODT, an .RVF file is essentially a serialization of the editor's internal content. This means it stores text, paragraph styles, tables, and images in a way that is highly efficient for the original software but completely illegible to standard word processors like Microsoft Word or LibreOffice.
Users typically encounter this file when digging through data folders of specialized legacy software or custom business applications. A common issue is vendor lock-in: without the specific application that created the file (or a custom viewer built with the TRichView SDK), opening the file is nearly impossible. Furthermore, because the format can be saved in either binary or text modes depending on the developer's choice, generic text editors often display garbled code. To access the data, the most practical solution is converting the file to RTF (Rich Text Format) for editing in Word, PDF for universal viewing, or HTML for web publishing.
*Note: A small minority of .RVF files may be Reference Value Files (XML) used by EarthSoft EQuIS. These are structured data files rather than documents.*
Convert.Guru analyzes your RVF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RVF file to TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN, LOG or NFO, you can use TRichView or similar software from the "Formatted Document Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to RVF, try TRichView or another comparable tool in the "Formatted Document Storage" category.
The RVF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RVF converter.
