About RVF files
The .RVF file extension primarily represents a RichView Format document. It is the native, proprietary document format used by TRichView, a popular suite of Delphi and C++Builder components created by Sergey Tkachenko for rendering rich text, images, and hypertext. Developers use TRichView components to embed advanced text editors within custom Windows applications. As a result, end-users often encounter .RVF files generated by these bespoke programs. A smaller percentage of .RVF files function as Reference Value Files in EarthSoft EQuIS environmental data management software, where they are formatted in standard XML and used to validate reference data in Microsoft Excel.
The main disadvantage of the TRichView .RVF format is its highly proprietary nature. Because it is designed to store the internal state of a specific Delphi programming component, standard word processors like Microsoft Word or LibreOffice cannot open it. It lacks widespread adoption outside the Delphi developer ecosystem, meaning users are locked into the specific third-party application that generated the file. If that application becomes obsolete or unavailable, accessing the document's content is nearly impossible without coding a custom reader.
To make these files accessible, conversion to RTF (Rich Text Format), DOCX, or TXT is highly recommended. For the EQuIS variant, converting the underlying XML to CSV or standard XLSX is the standard workflow. Converting a RichView document to RTF usually preserves basic text formatting, though complex TRichView-specific elements like custom GUI controls or unique table structures may be lost or flattened during the transition.
Because the TRichView .RVF is tightly coupled to internal memory structures, it is exceptionally difficult to open or convert without the original software libraries. Standard online converters fail to process it. Our platform will inspect the binary or text headers to determine if it is a TRichView document or an EQuIS XML file. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extracting the raw text may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RVF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RVF file to TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN, LOG or NFO, you can use TRichView or similar software from the "Rich Text Document Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to RVF, try TRichView or another comparable tool in the "Rich Text Document Storage" category.
The RVF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RVF converter.
