Its most common iteration is the Red Storm Bitmap, a proprietary texture format developed by Red Storm Entertainment for tactical shooters like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. Unlike standard JPG or PNG files, these textures contain specialized headers and pixel data optimized for older game engines, rendering them unreadable by standard image viewers or web browsers without specific plugins.

A secondary but widespread variation is the Resource Stream Bundle used by PopCap Games (e.g., Plants vs. Zombies). These act as containers - similar to a ZIP or PAK - holding multiple game assets like sounds and sprites in a single file to speed up loading times. Because these formats are closed-source, users often hit a wall when trying to extract music or edit graphics for mods.

Practical Workarounds & Conversion:

For Game Textures (Red Storm): To edit or view these, you must convert them to TGA (Targa) or PNG. These formats preserve the transparency (alpha channels) crucial for game UI and textures. Direct editing usually requires an RSB plugin for Adobe Photoshop.
For PopCap Bundles: These are archives. The goal is extraction, not direct conversion. Specialized "unpacker" scripts are required to separate the internal streams into usable media files.
For Saral PayPack Users: If you are handling a backup from RelyonSoft's software, the file is often just a standard ZIP archive disguised with an .RSB extension. Renaming the file to ZIP typically allows immediate access to your data.
