About RRA files
The .RRA file extension represents multiple distinct, highly specialized formats. Primarily, it acts as a Remote Assistance Invitation file in Microsoft Windows, utilizing a Microsoft Compound structure, or as an internal Round-Robin Archive data file. Additionally, it serves as a packed application resource by Oreans Themida, an alternate volume extension for RAR archives by RARLAB, or a RIFF-based game audio file in classic Westwood Studios titles like Command & Conquer: Red Alert.
These diverse formats share a common disadvantage: they are highly proprietary, legacy, or intentionally obfuscated. A .RRA Remote Assistance file contains temporary session instructions that expire quickly and require the Windows OS to execute, making cross-platform viewing impossible. Themida-packed resources are heavily encrypted to prevent reverse engineering, functioning as locked EXE components. Westwood audio files use a proprietary game engine encoding that modern media players cannot decode natively.
Because of these severe limitations, you cannot simply open .RRA files in web browsers or standard editors. If you are dealing with a classic game audio .RRA, converting it to MP3 or WAV is the only way to achieve modern playback, though loop metadata may be lost. For RAR-based .RRA files, extraction to ZIP or raw file components is the ideal path.
Standard online converters usually fail to process .RRA files because they lack the specific decoders for legacy Westwood audio, Themida unpacking routines, or Windows Compound parsers. Just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. We can safely inspect the file, reveal internal text headers, and identify the underlying data. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RRA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RRA file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use Microsoft Windows or similar software from the "System Data & Archiving" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to RRA, try Microsoft Windows or another comparable tool in the "System Data & Archiving" category.
The RRA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RRA converter.
