The .RLI file extension serves three distinct functions, but is most frequently encountered as a Lease Registration File generated by the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate). These files contain structured XML data detailing real estate contracts, landlord information, and tenant data for the Registrazione Locazioni Immobili (RLI) system. Users typically generate them using the official Java-based RLI Desktop Software to submit taxes and contracts electronically.
For most users, the challenge lies in the format's bureaucratic rigidity. An .RLI file cannot be opened in Microsoft Word or standard PDF viewers. It is designed strictly for machine validation by the government's "Telematico" system.
