Extract text from License reports (RL)

To convert other file formats to the "License Report Log File" file type, you need software like FlexNet Publisher or a similar tool.
A .RL file is primarily a FLEXnet license report log file generated by FlexNet Publisher. It records granular software license usage data, including checkout times, check-in times, and user details across a corporate network. System administrators use report generation tools like FlexNet Manager to parse these files. Less commonly, .RL files function as media library data by RealPlayer, raster images in Mimaki RasterLink RIP software, or audio archives in legacy games like The 7th Guest.
The main disadvantage of .RL log files is their poor readability. When generated by enterprise license managers, they are structured in complex, proprietary layouts or encrypted to prevent tampering. They grow rapidly over time, easily exceeding gigabytes in size, which causes standard text editors to freeze or crash upon opening.
To analyze enterprise data, you must convert the .RL log file to CSV or TXT. This allows administrators to open the usage metrics in Microsoft Excel or import them into database tools. Meanwhile, RealPlayer library files cannot be converted to media files as they are only database indexes. Legacy 7th Guest audio files require specialized archive extractors to export the internal tracks to WAV or MP3.
Because these files belong to closed, proprietary enterprise tracking systems or legacy software, standard online converters fail to process them. You usually need the original reporting tools to decipher encrypted license data.
