About RIT files
A .rit file is most frequently a proprietary project file created by Metron Metron4, a specialized CAD application used in the furniture retail and manufacturing industry. These files function as comprehensive project containers, storing 3D room layouts, cabinet configurations, material finishes, and pricing data (BoM). Because the format is strictly proprietary to Metron, users often struggle to open these files without a licensed copy of the software - a significant hurdle given the software's niche market availability. A secondary but notable use (approx. 10%) is within Allplan (by Nemetschek) for storing reinforcement steel schedules, which are crucial for structural engineering documentation. In the textile industry, .rit files may contain production data from Rieter SPIDERweb systems. For most users, the goal is to extract the visual design or data. For Metron files, the only reliable conversion method is exporting to PDF or DXF via the native application. For Allplan or Rieter data, the files may sometimes be parsed as plain text or converted to Excel formats if they are not binary-encoded.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RIT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The RIT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RIT converter.
