Convert RG to another file type
To convert RG files to another format, you need Rosegarden or other Audio software.
Convert a file to RG
To convert other file formats to the "Audio Project or Voice Message" file type, you need software like Rosegarden or a similar tool.
About RG files
The .rg file extension has two primary uses: an encrypted voice message from Tango Messenger or an audio sequencer project file from the Rosegarden digital audio workstation. Tango uses this format to securely store voice memos sent between users. Rosegarden uses it to save MIDI sequences, track layouts, and audio routing data in a GZIP compressed XML format.
Both formats present significant user challenges. Tango .rg files are encrypted, making them impossible to open outside the proprietary app. Users cannot easily share these voice notes with non-Tango users or play them in standard media players. Rosegarden files are project containers, not actual audio files. They require the original software or a Linux environment to render the MIDI and audio tracks into playable formats.
To share or play these files universally, conversion is necessary. Tango voice files should ideally be converted to MP3 or WAV, though decryption is a major hurdle. Rosegarden projects should be exported as MIDI files or rendered to WAV or OGG audio formats. Note that converting a Rosegarden project to a flat audio file will lose the multi-track editing capabilities and specific plugin settings.
Standard online converters fail to process .rg files because they are either encrypted closed formats (Tango) or complex project archives (Rosegarden) that lack standard audio streams. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. If our analysis detects the underlying GZIP structure of a Rosegarden file, we can extract the internal XML or embedded media.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RG file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use Rosegarden or similar software from the "Voice Message or Audio Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to RG, try Rosegarden or another comparable tool in the "Voice Message or Audio Project" category.
The RG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RG converter.
