About RFO files

The .RFO file extension is predominantly used for RoboForm Data Backup files or RoboForm Options files developed by Siber Systems. These files securely store configuration settings, backed-up user profiles, and encrypted password databases for the RoboForm password manager. Alternatively, the .RFO extension is used as an encrypted license file for Maxwell Render, a 3D rendering engine developed by Next Limit.

There are significant disadvantages to the .RFO format. It is a highly proprietary, closed, and strongly encrypted file type. You cannot natively read the passwords or settings inside an .RFO file without the original master password and the RoboForm application. It is completely unsupported by standard web browsers or generic text editors.

Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard online converters fail to process it. The format relies on heavy encryption to protect highly sensitive user data or premium software licensing. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If you want to migrate your passwords, the best conversion target is CSV, but this must be done from within the RoboForm interface itself.

Despite these strict limitations, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RFO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RFT, RFP and RFN files.

The RFO Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RFO converter.
