About RFF files
The .RFF file extension primarily serves as a Game Resource File for games developed by Monolith Productions using the LithTech engine (such as Blood), as well as the Refractor2 game engine. In this context, it acts as a container archive storing 3D models, textures, and audio. However, the format is highly fragmented. In the medical field, LKC Technologies uses .RFF for Electroretinography (ERG) Data from eye exams. In the industrial sector, Atlas Copco uses it for Tightening Process Result files, which are actually structured internally as ZIP archives.
The major disadvantage of the .RFF format is this extreme fragmentation. A medical eye exam file shares the exact same extension as a retro 1990s shooter game asset archive, causing massive confusion for standard operating systems. These files are strictly proprietary. Without the original software - like the specific game engine modding tools, LKC medical diagnostic software, or Atlas Copco database systems - the operating system has no native way to open, read, or preview the data. Furthermore, these closed-source files are completely unsupported by standard web browsers or mobile devices.
Users often need to convert these files to extract the trapped data. Modders and game developers usually want to unpack game archives into standard WAV, PCX, or PNG files. Medical and industrial professionals need to export their proprietary exam or process data to CSV, XLSX, or standard PDF reports for analysis and compliance.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert directly because it lacks a unified standard structure. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as the Atlas Copco ZIP structure - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

The RFF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RFF converter.
