About RCH files

The .RCH extension primarily refers to the Reach Output File generated by the Soil & Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), a hydrological modeling system used to simulate water quality and sediment yields. These files are essentially fixed-width text logs that store data for specific river segments (reaches), including flow rates, evaporation, and sediment transport. Users frequently need to convert these into XLSX (Excel) or CSV formats to visualize the data, as the raw text is difficult to interpret and often exceeds standard notepad limits.

A secondary but common use is the ReCap Cache File created by Autodesk ReCap. These are internal helper files (often found alongside RCC files) used to render 'RealView' web visualizations of 3D point clouds. Users often stumble upon them in the Support folder of a project and mistakenly try to open them instead of the actual RCP project file. Converting a ReCap .RCH file is generally not possible; the solution is to locate the parent project file or export the point cloud to RCS or PTS using the ReCap software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RCH file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GPX, PHC and CDS files.

The RCH Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RCH converter.
