About RBCF files

The .rbcf file is a proprietary configuration and backup file generated by the Rain Bird mobile app. It stores the scheduling, zone configurations, and system settings for Rain Bird smart irrigation controllers. Users typically encounter these files when exporting their controller settings for safekeeping or when transferring profiles between different mobile devices. These files are designed to be imported exclusively back into the Rain Bird app. The primary disadvantage of the .rbcf format is its proprietary nature; it is locked to the Rain Bird ecosystem and cannot be natively opened by standard system software or web browsers. Without the companion app, users are unable to read their watering schedules or hardware settings. However, underneath the custom extension, the file is structured using standard JSON data. If you need to review your settings outside the app, the best conversion targets are JSON or TXT. Converting to these formats retains the pure text data, though you will lose the ability to import the file back into the Rain Bird app if the structure is accidentally modified. Because it operates as an application-specific configuration, the .rbcf format is inherently difficult to open or convert with standard document tools.
