About QUB files

A .qub file is a highly specialized planetary science data cube used by the NASA Planetary Data System (PDS). It is designed to store multi-dimensional, multi-spectral image data transmitted by space missions and satellites. Rather than a flat photograph, these files contain a "cube" of data where the third dimension represents different wavelengths of light.

These files are typically processed, calibrated, and analyzed using ISIS3 (Integrated Software for Imagers and Spectrometers) or viewed with the PDS Image Viewer.

The main disadvantage of the .qub format is its extreme incompatibility with everyday software. It is a proprietary, scientific format. Standard image editors like Adobe Photoshop or default operating system viewers cannot open or understand the multi-band structure. Furthermore, .qub files are often massive in size, making them incredibly difficult to share with non-scientists, clients, or the general public.

To make this data accessible and usable outside of a laboratory environment, you must convert it. For scientific archiving and spatial analysis, extract and convert specific bands to .GeoTIFF or FITS. For web sharing, presentations, or quick visual reference, convert a rendered visual band to PNG or JPG. Drag and drop your .qub file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing complex scientific software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your QUB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted IMQ, COV and PVC files.

The QUB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QUB converter.
