About QRT files

The .QRT extension represents a collision between two very different worlds: cybersecurity and orienteering. Most frequently (52% of cases), a .QRT file is a Quarantined File created by Quick Heal Antivirus. When the antivirus detects a threat, it doesn't just delete the file; it encapsulates the dangerous executable (often an EXE or DLL) into a .QRT container and modifies the header to render it inert. This proprietary lock-in is a safety feature, meaning you cannot open or "convert" these files using standard tools. Friction arises when a legitimate file is flagged falsely; users often try to rename the file extension back to EXE, which fails because the internal file structure has been altered. The only reliable "conversion" is restoring the file via the Quick Heal quarantine manager.

Alternatively, in the sports analysis world, a .QRT file is a proprietary project file used by QuickRoute. This format bundles GPS route data (from devices like Garmin) with a raster map image to analyze route choices in orienteering. Practical constraints here are significant: .QRT files are not supported by web platforms like Strava or mapping tools like Google Earth. To share your data, you typically need to convert the vector path to GPX or KML for web use, and the map layer to JPG or KMZ for archiving and print.

The QRT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QRT converter.
