About QR files
A .QR file is most frequently a proprietary report document generated by QuickReport, a set of components used by developers in Delphi and C++Builder environments. These files store rendered reports - such as invoices, inventory lists, or data summaries - in a format that retains the layout and pagination defined by the original application.
The frustrating part for users is that .QR files are not self-contained documents like PDFs; they are effectively "locked" requiring the original legacy software or a specific viewer component to open. You cannot view them in web browsers or standard office suites like Microsoft Word. This proprietary lock-in makes them terrible for archiving or sharing with clients who do not have the specific host application installed.
To make these files useful, the best approach is converting them to PDF (Portable Document Format). This freezes the layout and ensures the report can be opened on any modern device. For those needing to edit the data, converting to HTML or extracting text is an option, though you may lose strict formatting.
Note: A significant portion of files with the .QR extension are simply QR Code images (often PNG or JPG format) that have been saved with a non-standard extension by a generator tool. In this scenario, the file is just a raster image containing the barcode data, and converting it to a standard PNG or SVG ensures it can be used in design software like Adobe Illustrator or viewed on the web.
Convert.Guru analyzes your QR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The QR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QR converter.
