About QFL files

The .QFL file extension serves two distinct primary purposes. Most often, it functions as a Quicken WillMaker or Quicken Family Lawyer legal document. Created by Nolo, these files store personal legal paperwork such as wills, trusts, and power of attorney forms. Alternatively, in enterprise environments, a .QFL file is a Function Library used by OpenText UFT One (formerly HP QuickTest Professional), which contains VBScript code stored in UTF-8 or UTF-16 LE encoding for automated software testing.

Both formats present major usability issues. The Quicken legal files are strictly proprietary. They lock your essential legal documents behind a paid software license, making it impossible to quickly share them with attorneys, executors, or family members who do not own the exact same version of the software. UFT script files, while merely text-based, are tied to heavy enterprise environments that casual users do not possess.

To share legal documents, converting .QFL to standard PDF or DOCX is essential so anyone can read or print them without restrictions. For UFT function libraries, converting or renaming them to TXT or VBS allows the code to be viewed in lightweight editors.

Because the legal document variant of this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard online converters consistently fail. The files rely on closed, proprietary structures (sometimes based on the older Microsoft Compound Document format). Often only the original Quicken WillMaker software can properly read or export the legal data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your QFL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted QDF, QDF-BACKUP and GKX files.

The QFL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QFL converter.
