About QCP files
The .QCP file format is a proprietary audio container based on the Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF). It stores human speech encoded with the QCELP or EVRC codecs. Originally, it was used to optimize voice quality over CDMA cellular networks, to store voice memos on early mobile phones, and for lightweight email voice attachments. Historically, users relied on the official Qualcomm PureVoice Player or specific plugins for Winamp to open these files. The .QCP format is now obsolete and frustratingly proprietary. Modern web browsers, smartphones, and standard audio players like VLC media player cannot play it natively. Sharing a .QCP file today almost guarantees the recipient will not be able to open it. To solve this, you must migrate the audio to standard formats. For universal playback on any phone or computer, convert .QCP to MP3. For archiving without further loss of quality (since QCELP is inherently lossy), convert to WAV. For modern web and app integration, convert to M4A. The QCP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QCP converter.
