About Q5R files

The .q5r file format is a proprietary settings preset used exclusively by the Melancholytron image editing plug-in, developed by Flaming Pear Software. This plug-in operates inside host applications like Adobe Photoshop to apply vintage, aged, and moody atmospheric effects to digital photographs. A .q5r file stores the exact mathematical parameters, slider values, and color tone settings configured by a user. This allows graphic designers and photographers to save complex filter combinations and apply the exact same visual effect to other images later.

The primary disadvantage of the .q5r format is its strict hardware and software dependency. It is a completely closed and proprietary file type. To utilize a .q5r file, you must own an expensive host application and have the specific third-party Melancholytron plug-in installed. You cannot open this file in a standard web browser, and operating systems will not recognize it natively.

Because a .q5r file contains configuration text and mathematical instructions rather than actual pixel data, standard online converters fail to process it. You cannot directly convert a .q5r file into a JPG or PNG. The only way to "convert" the effect is to load the preset onto an active image layer inside Photoshop and export the resulting rasterized image.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because the encoding of the filter parameters is unique to Flaming Pear Software. Only the original software can properly read or export the data. We inspect the raw hex data and text headers. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your Q5R file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SA9, Q2Q and Q1Q files.
