A .pza file is a legacy photo album project created by MGI PhotoSuite, a once-popular image editing and organizing software later acquired by Roxio and then Corel. These files are essentially Microsoft Compound Documents (OLE2) that serve as containers for organizing collections of digital photos, captions, and layout settings.
A major drawback of .pza files is their proprietary nature and age; MGI PhotoSuite was discontinued years ago, making these files effectively "locked" on modern operating systems like Windows 10 or macOS. Users often discover old .pza archives on backup drives only to find they cannot open them to view the family memories inside. Furthermore, because .pza files sometimes store references to images rather than the full-resolution images themselves, moving the file without its accompanying source folder can result in "missing file" errors.
To preserve these memories, the best workflow is converting the album pages to PDF for archiving or extracting the constituent images to standard JPG or TIFF formats. While legacy software like Roxio Creator might technically support import, it is often bloatware or unavailable; a direct conversion utility is the most pragmatic solution.
