About PWX files
A .PWX file is most commonly an XML-based data exchange format developed by Peaksware, the parent company of TrainingPeaks. These files store rich athletic telemetry - including GPS coordinates, heart rate, power output (watts), and cadence - generated during cycling or running workouts. A secondary, distinct use of the extension is for HMI (Human Machine Interface) project files created by Siemens WinCC Flexible software for industrial automation.
From a user perspective, the .PWX format presents significant compatibility friction. While it is technically XML, its schema is proprietary to the Peaksware ecosystem, meaning popular social fitness platforms like Strava, Garmin Connect, or Ride with GPS often fail to recognize or import the data directly. Users are left with a file that contains valuable performance metrics they cannot visualize or share. The Siemens variant is even more restrictive, functioning as a proprietary binary container that requires expensive, version-specific industrial software just to view.
To liberate your fitness data, the best workflow is converting .PWX to GPX (GPS Exchange Format) for universal map compatibility or TCX (Training Center XML) to preserve interval and fitness data. For raw data analysis, converting to CSV allows for manual graphing in spreadsheets.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PWX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PWX file to GPX, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD or LOCK, you can use TrainingPeaks or similar software from the "Workout Data Exchange" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to PWX, try TrainingPeaks or another comparable tool in the "Workout Data Exchange" category.
The PWX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PWX converter.
