About PWX files
.PWX files primarily function as XML-based workout data exchange files created by TrainingPeaks. A secondary use is for Human Machine Interface (HMI) runtime projects in industrial automation platforms like Siemens WinCC or Emerson Movicon. The TrainingPeaks .PWX format is heavily proprietary to the Peaksware ecosystem. It explicitly locks your cycling, running, and swimming data into their platform. You cannot directly upload it to popular trackers like Strava, Garmin Connect, or Wahoo without encountering strict compatibility errors. Furthermore, while the XML structure is human-readable, it is bloated and inefficient, making the files unnecessarily large compared to modern binary fitness formats. For industrial engineering users, a .PWX HMI runtime file is a compiled project file. It is strictly tied to specific touchscreen hardware and cannot be edited, modified, or reverse-engineered easily without the original source project. To free your fitness data for web use or syncing with other platforms, you must convert .PWX to FIT (the industry standard for modern head units), TCX (ideal for older fitness platforms), or GPX (for pure GPS route mapping).
