About PTI files

The .PTI file format is primarily associated with Portable Test Info files generated by Brüel & Kjær PULSE systems. These files store high-precision sound and vibration recording telemetry used in automotive, aerospace, and industrial engineering. Secondary uses include post-tensioned slab design files created by PTISlab, and proprietary infotainment system firmware packages for General Motors (GM) vehicles.

Users often need to convert .PTI files to share acoustic, vibration, or structural data with colleagues who do not own the required specialized software. The major disadvantage of the .PTI format is its strictly proprietary nature. Files cannot be opened with standard media players or generic CAD viewers. Reading these files usually requires a paid, active software license for the specific industry tool.

For acoustic data, the best target formats are WAV for audio playback, or CSV, TXT, and MAT (MATLAB) for raw data analysis. For PTISlab design files, exporting to PDF or DXF is standard. Standard online converters consistently fail to process .PTI files because the binary structure is closed, undocumented, and tightly integrated with the original application. Often, only the original software can properly parse, render, or export the data.

If you are stuck, just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. We can inspect the internal hex data and extract readable text. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PTI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SCORE, TC and FLO files.

The PTI Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PTI converter.
