About PRSL files
A .PRSL file is essentially a Premiere Style Library file, an XML-based preset format used by the legacy titling tool in older versions of Adobe Premiere Pro. These files were the standard for saving and sharing custom text styles - gradients, strokes, shadows, and font settings - before Adobe transitioned to the Essential Graphics panel.
The primary problem users face today is obsolescence. Adobe effectively deprecated the Legacy Titler in recent Creative Cloud updates (starting around CC 2023), meaning modern versions of Premiere Pro cannot natively import or create .PRSL files via the standard interface. This leaves video editors with "locked" creative assets from old archives or online tutorials that they cannot easily visualize or use. Furthermore, because the file is technically XML text, users often try to open it with media players or standard image viewers, which results in errors.
For practical use, the best "conversion" is often viewing the metadata to manually recreate the style or using an older version of Premiere to ingest and upgrade the file.
Best Target Formats:
XML/TXT (Editing/View): Since .PRSL is XML-structured, converting or renaming it to TXT allows you to read the internal parameters (font names, hex colors, shadow values) without needing installed software.
MOGRT (Modern Workflow): While no direct 1-click converter exists, the goal is often to migrate these styles into a Motion Graphics Template (.MOGRT) for use in modern Premiere workflows.
PDF (Archiving): Convert the text data to PDF to create a readable style sheet for your production team.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PRSL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The PRSL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PRSL converter.
