About PP5 files

The .PP5 file format is primarily a proprietary raster image format created by Micrografx Picture Publisher version 5, a legacy graphics editing program later acquired by Corel. These files store bitmap images, layers, and photo editing project data. A secondary use for .PP5 files is as encrypted vehicle diagnostic data generated by the Peugeot Planet 2000 software used by automotive technicians. Opening these files today is highly frustrating. Picture Publisher is completely obsolete and incompatible with modern 64-bit operating systems. While legacy versions of Corel PhotoImpact might recognize the image variant, most modern image viewers and web browsers cannot read .PP5 files natively. The Peugeot variant is locked behind proprietary, encrypted automotive software and is useless without the specific diagnostic hardware. Because of its proprietary nature and lack of modern support, converting .PP5 image files is mandatory for archiving and sharing. For web use, convert to WEBP or PNG. For general viewing and sharing, JPG is ideal. For archiving project data where compatibility is key, convert to PDF. Note that converting legacy project files to standard flat images will result in the loss of layer data.
