About PNP files

The .PNP file extension is primarily a SharePoint Provisioning Template file created by Microsoft SharePoint PnP. These files store the structural layout, site settings, and lists required to provision new SharePoint sites automatically. Internally, modern .PNP templates are structured as standard ZIP archives containing XML configurations and asset files. Another common use is for Windows Plug and Play driver states, or older Formatta PageNeat electronic forms. Additionally, the extension is used for PCB Pick and Place files in EDA software like Altium Designer, and even raw JPG images from certain Fujifilm FinePix digital cameras. The main disadvantage of the .PNP format is its fragmented usage and proprietary nature depending on the source. SharePoint .PNP files require PnP PowerShell to execute and apply the template. Formatta documents require legacy proprietary software like PaperPort to open. If you do not have the specific software that generated the file, the contents are locked. If your file is a SharePoint template, rename the extension to ZIP to extract the internal XML data. If it is a Fujifilm image, rename it to JPG. Converting older Formatta documents to PDF is highly recommended for long-term archiving. Because .PNP files can contain multiple distinct data types (from web templates to driver states and raw images), standard online converters often fail to process them. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like ZIP, XML, or JPG, viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PNP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PNG, JPG, JPEG, EXE, TEMPLATE, XLTX and DESD files.

The PNP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PNP converter.
