Extract text from VivaDesigner documents (DESD)

The .DESD file is a proprietary Desktop Publishing Document created by VivaDesigner. It stores complex page layouts, typography, vector graphics, and linked raster images. Print professionals use it for typesetting books, magazines, and marketing materials.
The major disadvantage of the .DESD format is vendor lock-in. It is a closed file that requires VivaDesigner to open and edit. Standard web browsers, text editors, and competing DTP software like Adobe InDesign cannot read it natively. This makes sharing source files difficult unless the recipient also installs the specific software.
To share these layouts reliably, users must convert them. The best target format is PDF for universal viewing and printing. To migrate the project to other layout software, exporting to IDML or an XML-based interchange format is required. However, converting proprietary layout files often breaks text flow and misplaces image frames because layout engines calculate spacing differently.
The .DESD format is difficult to open or convert because the format is proprietary and closed. Often only the original software can properly read or export the layout data.
