About PMOD files

The .PMOD extension typically refers to a CAM Part Model created by Edgecam (formerly by Vero Software, now Hexagon) or occasionally associated with PowerMill. These files act as containers for manufacturing data, storing 3D geometry, feature definitions, and toolpath instructions required for CNC machining.

Because .PMOD files use a proprietary Microsoft Compound binary structure, they are not designed for interoperability. A common friction point is that standard CAD viewers and generic 3D tools cannot open them; you generally need the specific version of the manufacturing software that created them. If you have received a .PMOD file and lack a license for Edgecam or PowerMill, your ability to view or edit the content is severely limited.

For collaboration or long-term archiving, the best workflow is to open the file in the original software and export it to a neutral exchange format. For engineering review, convert to STEP (STP) or IGES. For 3D printing or visualization, convert to STL. If you simply need to share the design visually without sharing geometry, exporting to 3D PDF is often the most accessible option.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PMOD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NWN, MODULE and MDE files.

The PMOD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PMOD converter.
