Most commonly, it acts as a Logic Controller Program File for the Crouzet Millenium 3 PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), storing automation logic used in industrial machinery. Alternatively, it can be an obsolete PageMaker 3 publication created by Aldus (later acquired by Adobe), a sliced 3D printer file for the Anycubic Photon resin printer, or an HMI project file for Pro-face GP-Pro EX.
Because .PM3 files serve completely different purposes across industries, they are notoriously difficult to manage. Crouzet PLC programs are proprietary binaries requiring specific industrial software to read. PageMaker 3 files are decades old, no longer supported by modern Adobe tools, and trap your layout data in a dead format. Anycubic slice files are hardware-specific exposure instructions that regular 3D viewers cannot open. Pro-face HMI files use a Microsoft Compound structure but contain heavily locked database assets.
