About PLI files

A .PLI file is a multi-purpose format, most commonly recognized as a Polish bank transfer batch formatted for the Elixir-O clearing system. It is also heavily used as a vector drawing animation level or palette file in OpenToonz, an open-source 2D animation software. Less frequently, it acts as an Apple Property List (either XML or binary PLIST), a CAD project drawing file in Nemetschek Allplan, an encrypted public tender submission in French procurement systems, or a source code file for the legacy PL/I programming language created by IBM.

Because .PLI files share the same extension but have completely unrelated internal structures - ranging from plain XML and binary property lists to encrypted ZIP containers and proprietary vector graphics - standard online converters fail to process them. You cannot easily open a bank batch file in an animation tool, and vice versa. Encrypted public tender files are deliberately locked to prevent tampering, requiring specialized CSL software to view. Proprietary CAD formats are closed, require an expensive subscription to open, and are notoriously difficult to parse outside their native environments.

Users dealing with Elixir-O files often need to convert them to CSV or XLSX for auditing in Microsoft Excel. OpenToonz vector levels are usually exported to standard video formats like MP4 or image sequences like PNG from within the software. Apple Property Lists should be converted between binary and XML or to JSON for developer readability.

This file format is difficult to open or convert generically. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PLI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PL1, TXM, MOR, MFD and PSI files.

The PLI Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PLI converter.
