About PHTM files
The .PHTM file is a PHP-Based Web Page containing source code written in PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor), often mixed with standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. These files are built to generate dynamic web content. You can open and edit them using any modern code editor, such as Visual Studio Code or Notepad++.
The main disadvantage of the .PHTM format is that it relies entirely on a server-side engine. If you double-click a .PHTM file on your desktop, your web browser will fail to display the rendered page. It will either prompt you to download the file again or show raw, unformatted code. To see the actual webpage function, you must run it through a local server environment like XAMPP with PHP installed.
If you just need to read the code or extract static elements, the best target formats are TXT or HTML. However, understand that converting a .PHTM file to an HTML file will not make the dynamic features work. The server-side logic will be ignored or broken, and you will only preserve the static markup.
Because this is a raw script file, standard online document converters often corrupt the code formatting or simply refuse to process it.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PHTM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PHTM file to HTML, HTM, CSS, JS, PHP, ASP, ASPX, JSP, JSPX, PY, RB or PL, you can use Visual Studio Code or similar software from the "Server-Side Web Script" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RSS, CSS, CGI, SITEMAP, PL, WEBMANIFEST, JSON, JS, XML, HTML, ICO or HTM files to PHTM, try Visual Studio Code or another comparable tool in the "Server-Side Web Script" category.
The PHTM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PHTM converter.
