Convert PGX to another file type
To convert PGX files to another format, you need PGX Viewer or other Raster Image software.
Convert a file to PGX
To convert other file formats to the "Raw Codestream Image" file type, you need software like PGX Viewer or a similar tool.
About PGX files
The .pgx file extension is most commonly associated with JPEG 2000 codestream images (Portable Graymap Format) and SCADA/HMI project page files used by Cimon for Windows. It is also utilized as a VAL3 robot program file by Stäubli Robotics, which relies on an underlying XML structure. For images, the .PGX format stores a single component (usually grayscale) of a JPEG 2000 image without standard headers. For SCADA and robotics applications, .PGX files act as strictly proprietary control data.
The main disadvantage of the .PGX format is its highly specialized nature. Image variants lack standard metadata headers, causing rendering failures in default operating system tools. Project and robotics variants require expensive, niche software like Cimon Designer or Stäubli's VAL3 suite. Standard online converters frequently fail because they cannot determine if the file contains a raw codestream, an XML configuration, or binary SCADA data.
If your file is an image, we recommend converting it to JPG or PNG for universal web compatibility, or PDF for document sharing. Keep in mind that converting away from a raw codestream may result in a loss of high-dynamic-range grayscale depth.
Because of its closed or raw nature, this file format is difficult to open or convert. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our analysis will inspect the internal content - if we detect a supported underlying or embedded format (like XML for Stäubli or raw pixel data for JPEG 2000), viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PGX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PGX file to ISO, IMG, DMG, VHD, VMDK, VDI, HDD, QCOW, QCOW2, RAW, VBOX or OVA, you can use PGX Viewer or similar software from the "JPEG 2000 Codestream Image" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert VFD, DMG, OVA, IMA, VBOX, ADF, PVS, VHD, OVF, ISO, DSK or IMG files to PGX, try PGX Viewer or another comparable tool in the "JPEG 2000 Codestream Image" category.
The PGX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PGX converter.
