Convert PFE to another file type
To convert PFE project files to another format, you need Pipe Flow Expert or other Data software.
Convert a file to PFE
To convert other file formats to the "Project Configuration File" file type, you need software like Pipe Flow Expert or a similar tool.
About PFE files
A .PFE file is most frequently a Pipe Flow Expert Project File created by Pipe Flow Expert. It contains fluid piping network designs, pump performance data, and complex hydraulic calculations. Alternatively, it serves as a project and configuration file for industrial automation platforms like KEPServerEX (storing OPC server and Modbus configurations), or less commonly, as an export from PeopleSoft ERS.
The main disadvantage of the .PFE format is its strictly proprietary nature. These are closed, highly specialized environment files. If an engineer sends you a Pipe Flow network model, you cannot open it in standard CAD software or view the calculations natively on your operating system. You must have an active, expensive license for the original software. This creates a severe bottleneck when sharing fluid flow models or OPC server architectures with clients, managers, or stakeholders who lack these tools.
To share this data, users desperately need to convert .PFE files into accessible formats. For Pipe Flow designs, exporting reports to PDF or extracting pipe specifications to CSV and XLSX is essential for non-engineers. For Kepware configurations, extracting the tag databases to XML or CSV is standard practice.
Because these are highly specific, compiled project files, standard online converters fail completely - they lack the proprietary engineering algorithms or industrial OPC schemas required to parse the data. However, just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the exact format version, inspect the internal raw text, and attempt to extract embedded data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PFE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PFE file to JS, TS, PY, JAVA, CPP, C, CS, PHP, RB, GO, RS or SWIFT, you can use Pipe Flow Expert or similar software from the "Engineering & Server Configuration" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SH, PY, KT, PS1, SWIFT, LUA, PL, JAVA, SCALA, JS, VBS or TS files to PFE, try Pipe Flow Expert or another comparable tool in the "Engineering & Server Configuration" category.
The PFE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PFE converter.
