About PDV files
The .PDV file extension is primarily used by DaVinci Resolve as an audio peak data cache file. This allows the video editor to draw waveform visuals on the timeline without recalculating the raw audio data constantly. Other distinct uses include SAP advice note reports, proprietary 1-bit video files for the Panic Playdate console, and generic pipe-delimited text data. Because .PDV acts as a generic extension for completely unrelated software, it suffers from severe compatibility issues. A DaVinci Resolve cache file is useless without the master project, a Playdate video requires the specific Playdate Simulator, and SAP reports are isolated to internal enterprise systems. If you send a .PDV file to a colleague, they will likely be unable to open it without the exact same specialized software. Conversion targets depend entirely on the file's underlying data structure. Pipe-delimited .PDV files can easily be renamed or converted to CSV for use in Microsoft Excel. Playdate videos might occasionally be converted to MP4 for standard viewing. However, DaVinci cache files contain no usable media and cannot be converted to audio formats. This format is notoriously frustrating because standard converters blindly guess the file type based on the extension alone. Closed, proprietary formats often lock your data away. Our analyzer inspects the internal binary or text structure to determine if viewing or conversion is actually viable.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PDV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PDV file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use DaVinci Resolve or similar software from the "Video Editor Peak Data File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to PDV, try DaVinci Resolve or another comparable tool in the "Video Editor Peak Data File" category.
The PDV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PDV converter.
