About PCA files

The .PCA file extension represents multiple, entirely distinct file formats. Most commonly, it is a CT scan acquisition parameters file generated by GE v|tome|x industrial CT scanners and read by software like VGStudio Max. These files store crucial metadata about the X-ray scan settings. A major disadvantage is that they are proprietary and practically useless without the accompanying massive volumetric data files.

Another frequent use is the Perfect Clarity Audio format, originally developed by Sony Creative Software and later used by MAGIX. This is a compressed audio format built on the RIFF container structure, designed for professional audio editing in tools like Pro Tools. The primary limitation of Perfect Clarity Audio is poor compatibility; standard media players and modern web browsers cannot play them without dedicated codecs. Users typically need to convert these into standard WAV or MP3 files for basic listening and distribution.

Additionally, .PCA extensions are used as Firewall configuration backups by Barracuda Networks, as Packet Capture Analysis files in Wireshark, as SCADA HMI project files (often relying on JetDB), and as proprietary game data archives in Konami Bemani rhythm games.

Converting .PCA files is notoriously difficult because standard online converters fail to navigate this extreme level of format fragmentation. A firewall backup or a Konami game archive is a closed, proprietary format that often requires the original software to extract the data properly. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PCA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PCAPNG, PCAP, CDR, VGD, VGL and UINT16_SCV files.

The PCA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PCA converter.
