About P7 files
A .P7 file is a Public Key Cryptography Standards #7 (PKCS #7) digital certificate or signed message. It is primarily used to digitally sign or encrypt data, authenticating the sender's identity. These files are typically handled by OpenSSL or native operating system certificate managers like Windows Certificate Manager or macOS Keychain. Curiously, you can also inspect their internal structure using 7-Zip. For background, you can read about PKCS 7 on Wikipedia. The .P7 format is widely supported by Windows and Java Tomcat environments, but it has severe limitations for modern web administration. It is heavily disliked by Apache or NGINX servers, which strictly prefer PEM-encoded formats. Furthermore, .P7 files typically only contain public certificates and chain certificates, but never the private key. This makes them useless if you need to migrate a full server identity. Because of server strictness, conversion is almost always required. For Apache and NGINX web server deployment, convert to .PEM or .CER. If you need a binary format for specific legacy systems, convert to .DER. Drag and drop your file to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your P7 file.
If you want to convert P7 file to PEM, P12, HTML, HTM, CSS, JS, PHP, ASP, ASPX, JSP, JSPX or PY, you can use OpenSSL or similar software from the "Digital Certificate and Signature" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RSS, CSS, CGI, SITEMAP, PL, WEBMANIFEST, JSON, JS, XML, HTML or HTM files to P7, try OpenSSL or another comparable tool in the "Digital Certificate and Signature" category.
The P7 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our P7 converter.
