About P2D files
The .P2D file format is primarily used as a SolidWorks 2D Decal File by Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks. These files store 2D image data, often utilizing standard JPEG compression internally, to project logos, labels, or textures onto 3D CAD models. Other niche software systems use the extension for polyline information reports in Covadis, texture assets in Farming Simulator, and 2D CAD drawings in SOFTTECH Spirit.
Because a .P2D file is proprietary to specific engineering and gaming environments, it lacks native support in standard image viewers, web browsers, or general graphic design tools. Sharing a decal design with a client or marketing team usually requires them to have an expensive, resource-heavy CAD software suite installed. The files can also become bloated and inaccessible if high-resolution uncompressed image data is embedded within the proprietary wrapper.
To make these images usable outside of SolidWorks, you must convert them. For web use and standard viewing, convert to JPG or PNG. For archiving or sharing fixed layouts, convert to PDF. The P2D Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our P2D converter.
