The .OTRKEY file is an encrypted TV recording created by the cloud-based DVR service OnlineTvRecorder (OTR). Users download these files to their local machines after scheduling a recording, ensuring that TV shows are stored offline while adhering to copyright distribution rules.
To open and decrypt this file, you must use the official OTR Decoder software. Standard media players like VLC media player cannot natively play the file until it has been successfully decoded using valid OTR account credentials.
The primary disadvantage of the .OTRKEY format is its strict DRM (Digital Rights Management). It requires an active internet connection to verify your account, a pre-existing recording schedule, and proprietary software to unlock. The files are completely unplayable on web browsers, smart TVs, or smartphones without prior decryption.
