About OSS files
The .OSS file extension primarily acts as an Outlook Saved Search file or an Outlook Offline Folder file created by Microsoft Outlook. It stores search parameters and offline folder data using the Microsoft Compound file structure. A secondary use for the .OSS format is structural analysis simulation output generated by the OpenSees software framework.
These files are highly proprietary and tightly bound to their native environments. Outlook files often lock data behind complex formatting, requiring active Microsoft subscriptions to access. They cannot be directly opened in web browsers or standard text editors. OpenSees simulation outputs are often large and rely on specific framework parsers, making them completely useless to standard analytical tools without pre-processing.
If you need to migrate email data or extract search queries, standard target formats like PST, CSV, or plain TXT are preferred. For structural data, CSV or XML are standard targets.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is a closed, proprietary format. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Standard online converters fail to process it because they lack the proprietary decryption and rendering engines. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OSS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert OSS file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Microsoft Outlook or similar software from the "Application Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to OSS, try Microsoft Outlook or another comparable tool in the "Application Data Storage" category.
The OSS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OSS converter.
