About OSR files

The .osr file extension is primarily known as an osu! Replay File. It stores recorded gameplay from the popular rhythm game osu!, developed by peppy. Rather than containing actual video footage, an .osr file holds compressed data regarding the player's cursor movements, clicks, and timing precision across a specific beatmap.

In a business context, the .osr extension is also used by the Oracle Hospitality OPERA property management system. In this environment, it functions as a generated report file containing hotel management, booking, or financial data.

The main disadvantage of the .osr osu! replay format is its strict dependency on the original game engine. To watch the replay, you must have the exact matching beatmap installed in your local game client. It is a proprietary, closed data file. It is not a video. If you try to upload an .osr file directly to YouTube or send it to a friend who does not play the game, it will not open.

Because it only contains raw input coordinates, standard online video converters fail completely when trying to process it into an MP4 or AVI file. Users typically need to render the replay into a video format. To do this, you must run the replay in the game and use screen recording software, or use specialized community-built rendering tools like osr2mp4.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because only the original software can properly read or export the gameplay data or the proprietary database reports. However, convert.guru offers a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our tool can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OSR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted OSU, OSZ, PDF, MP4, PNG, JPEG, TXT, SF2, RAR, SLDASM, SIG, EXE and TMP files.

The OSR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OSR converter.
