Extract text from OPS files
To convert your OPS file to another format, you need MsmDownloadTool or other System software.
To convert other file formats to the "Firmware / Settings" file type, you need software like MsmDownloadTool or a similar tool.
The .ops file extension serves two distinct, incompatible purposes that often confuse users. The most common modern usage is a OnePlus Firmware Package, specifically designed for use with the low-level MsmDownloadTool. Unlike standard ZIP OTA updates, these files are encrypted containers holding factory images (like system, vendor, and boot partitions) used to unbrick or restore OnePlus and Oppo devices. The main limitation here is accessibility: standard archive managers like 7-Zip cannot open or extract them due to proprietary encryption. Users typically need to convert or extract these into raw partition images (IMG) to patch the boot image for rooting or to inspect firmware details.
Alternatively, an .ops file may be a legacy Microsoft Office Profile Settings file created by the now-obsolete Office 2003 Profile Wizard. These files store user customizations, toolbar arrangements, and dictionary preferences. They are practically useless in modern environments, as Microsoft Office 365 and versions post-2003 dropped support for this format entirely in favor of XML-based settings and Group Policy objects. Converting these legacy files usually means migrating the data manually or using specialized parsers to view the text-based configuration data inside.
