Convert OP2 to another file type
To convert your OP2 file to another format, you need MSC Nastran or other Data software.
Convert a file to OP2
To convert other file formats to the "FEA Binary Results" file type, you need software like MSC Nastran or a similar tool.
About OP2 files
The .OP2 file is a Nastran Output2 binary file, the industry-standard format for storing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) results from solvers like MSC Nastran, Simcenter Nastran, and Altair OptiStruct. Unlike the human-readable F06 text file, the OP2 format is a highly compressed binary blob designed for machine efficiency, not human readability.
Because it relies on legacy FORTRAN unformatted record structures, accessing the data inside an OP2 file is notoriously difficult without expensive post-processing software like Patran or HyperView. Users often find themselves locked out of their own simulation data, unable to simply "open" the file to check a stress value or displacement vector. To analyze this data in Microsoft Excel or Python, the file must be converted. The most practical workflow is converting .OP2 to CSV for tabular analysis, MAT for processing in MATLAB, or VTK for free 3D visualization in ParaView.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OP2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted WM3, BDT, CSB, OP1 and H3D files.
FAQ
If you want to convert OP2 file to H3D, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use MSC Nastran or similar software from the "FEA Simulation Results" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to OP2, try MSC Nastran or another comparable tool in the "FEA Simulation Results" category.
The OP2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OP2 converter.
